Georgetown College Global Scholars

Expectations

Global Scholar Cody Polzin on zipline
Global Scholar Cody Polzin prepares to launch off the zipline during Directions as part of the leadership training Global Scholars experienced during the pre-orientation trip.

Scholars are expected to maintain a good academic standing in their major classes and remain active in the Global Scholars Program, meeting the minimum attendance requirements. All college academic and other policies and requirements apply to Scholars. All Scholars are expected to participate in some unpaid projects as selected by the Executive Director of the Global Scholars Program. These projects will be valuable as networking tools and provide enrichment to students’ global perspective.

“Georgetown College’s Global Scholars Program is an outstanding collection of events and experiences which help students dig deeply into the world and deal with the kaleidoscope of cultures and societies they will encounter.”

Learning Object Projects

Scholars are expected to complete a Learning Option project in at least three academic classes. Students will choose which classes they will complete these projects in, and projects need to reflect on their interest in expanding their global knowledge.

These projects require approval by and guidance from faculty and the Global Scholar Leadership Team. Our goal is to help students add an international component to their discipline and encourage them to think about how their field of study relates to their career ambitions. Global Scholars will also be encouraged to join organizations related to their major and as well as international and professional organizations related to their intended career field.

If you have questions regarding the Learning Option Projects, please contact Amy Carrington or 502-863-8002.

Global Scholars Program Points

  • Earn Ten Global Scholars Points Per Year

Global Scholars Points are opportunities for Scholars to engage international interests that are unique to them on their own time. Points are given for activities such as hosting international guests, attending lectures and seminars on and off-campus, touring international companies and organizations (not already on GSP schedule as required events), conducting informational interviews with international business professionals, going to international art exhibits and festivals, foreign films, and other activities that help students better understand global issues surrounding their personal interests.

Scholars will receive 1 point per opportunity when they submit a reflection on the international experience using the GSP Point Credit Form. Ten points are required by the end of each year.
